Project Scope

South East Queensland’s population is rising, putting their transport network under increasing pressure.

The current rail network is already nearing capacity and is constrained by a single river crossing and just four inner-city stations, causing a bottleneck that limits the ability to run more trains.

The Cross River Rail project was designed to unlock this bottleneck by delivering a second river crossing, allowing more trains to run more often and enabling a turn-up-and-go public transport system across the entire region.

To complete this project through, contractors UNITY Alliance required a series of custom-manufactured precast pits, made to meet Queensland Rail and Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) specifications.

Project Outcomes

Civilmart reviewed design drawings and offered like for like solutions. Where possible, we provided alternate designs to help keep costs down for our customer.

Civilmart has begun to deliver the required custom pits to enable the Cross River Rail project to go forward. With a 4-year project life, we have only just begun to deliver the required products. Providing a click and connect solution by supplying precast units to suit onsite requirements, we have been able to save UNITY Alliance considerable time and money.

Cross River Rail Project

Precast Concrete Pits:

  • Civilmart are supplying a range of 900 x 600 Queensland Rail Pits complete with 200mm thick walls and floor with varying pipe penetrations and depths.
  • All pits require custom precast lids with either a galvanized grate or cast-iron cover cast in flush to meet a class Loading of Class “D” or “E” to AS3996.
  • In addition to the custom pits Civilmart are manufacturing a range of bespoke precast circular access chambers complete with keyway rebates for a click and connect solution on site.
